Extending the disk size of a VPC

I was running low on my disk space when I was trying to upgrade my VPC with VS 2005 SP1.
It seemed to require more than 2 GB of memory as I could see it getting consumed while the SP1 update and finally fail due to memory shortage.
So I decided to increase my disk size.
Here are the steps required to follow to have this done easily:
#1. First download the "VHD Resizer" utility from vmToolkit to expand the total size of the VHD from this url: http://vmtoolkit.com/files/folders/converters/entry87.aspx
#2. Next, follow the instructions at Xtralogic to extend the File System Partition using Microsoft DiskPart. http://www.xtralogic.com/extend_fs_part.shtml
You may also take a look for DiskPart details at the url: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325590

Problem with the Cascading Dropdown Lists

I was hitting my head hard when I tried to link two dropdowns linked to each other.
The selection on the first Dropdown filtered the contents of the second Dropdown.
Then I need to select an item from the second Dropdown.
All worked good, except that after the process completes, the second Dropdown is left with just the selected item. All the filtered items are gone . This sucks!!!
After much googling, I found this blog which refers it to be a bug in the InfoPath Form Services and has a workaround for it.
Great !!! however things work, you are good to go.
Here is the link to the blog:

InfoPath 2007 features availability in Forms Services

InfoPath forms can be previewed in the InfoPath Client as well as the Browsers. The InfoPath Client must be installed with a client license on a client machine, limiting it to an intranet based application platform. On the other hand, using a browser based InfoPath form helps in designing applications accessible even from Internet. This is really cool but the trade-off is its cost. You need to have the Enterprise License for the MOSS which includes the Form Services.
But still, not all the InfoPath 2007 controls are available to the browser based forms.
Below is a list of what is available or not in InfoPath client and browser based forms:

The best practice would be to use the Design Checker feature from the Task pane or from Tools > "Design Checker" to validate whether the form is a valid browser based form.
The Design Checker correctly identifies the controls which are not supported to be part of a browser based form.

URL Encoder - Decoder

I was working with some list data submission and needed to make use of the GUID of the custom list that I had created. The GUID generally reads like this:
%7B79674320%2DADEA%2D4AE6%2DAAD2%2D29D33BE5EA7C%7D

To have this in a format acceptable to SharePoint, I found a nice little utility that encodes and decodes this beautifully.
After decoding it looks like this:
{79674320-ADEA-4AE6-AAD2-29D33BE5EA7C}

Thanks to Eric, I assume he is the author, for this tweaky thing !!
Below is the URL to this utility:

Feel free to use and make your life much simpler.

Happy New Year 2008 !!!

Just wanted to wish you all a very happy, prosperous and bright new year 2008 !!!
May all your wishes come true through the twist and turns of this year.
:-)
Keep smiling...
Always !!!
